A
13th place finish at North
Georgia
A
last minute schedule change
for Mike Weeks and team
as they opted to go to
North Georgia Speedway
for a SRRS race. A good
field of cars was on hand
for the race.
After
the 40-lap race was over,
Mike mustered a 13th place
finish. Mike was using
the race as a tune-up
for some upcoming VRS
races later in the year.
Mike's plans for this
weekend are undecided.
Good
run ends in disappointment
It
was time to do some racing
with the Southern All-Stars
at Boyd's Speedway and Cleveland
Speedway.
A
late afternoon shower delayed
things at Boyd's, but the
track was in excellent shape
when racing started. Mike
posted the 6th fastest time
during qualifying. When
the 40-lap race started,
Mike quickly showed he would
be in the mix for the win.
He moved up to third place
with the front two in sight
until a problem surfaced.
A broken rocker arm in the
engine ended his night.
Mike had broken another
rocker arm during qualifying.
Because of that, the team
opted to skip Cleveland
and a new set of rocker
arms have been ordered.
Mike
will be at Tazewell Speedway
this Saturday for the final
race of the Southern Nationals.
Mike
rallies for 13th place finish
A
thirteenth place finish may
not seem like much, but it
was for Mike Weeks at Green
Valley Speedway.
Mike
struggled all night. He failed
to make the show through heats
and B-mains. But as the points
leader, Mike used a VRS provisional
to start the race. Mike sliced
and diced his way to move
up to the 13th. Mike still
maintains the points lead
in the VRS standings.
New
points leader after second place
finish
Mike
Weeks climbed to the top of
the Volunteer Racing Series
point standings after two races
in Kentucky over the weekend.
Race
#1 was at Ponderosa Speedway
in Junction City, Kentucky.
It was Mike's first trip to
the bullring. Mike managed a
13th place finish in the 40-lap
race.
Race
#2 was at Lake Cumberland Speedway
in Burnside, Kentucky. Mike
raced there earlier this year
and the earlier trip paid off.
Mike set fast time, but finished
second in his heat to start
the 40-lap race in 4th. But
Mike moved his way to second
behind Justin Rattliff. Mike
finished the race in second
and also took over the VRS points
lead.
Mike
will be back in action on Sunday,
July 4 at Green Valley Speedway
for the next VRS event.
The
Mountain takes a bite
A
rare visit to Mountain Raceway
was on tap for Mike Weeks and
his raceteam as the Southern All-Stars
came in to town for their annual
visit.
Mike
posted the 5th best starting time
for the 50-lap race. Mike quickly
moved up and found himself running
in 3rd place. Track conditions
were rough and took a toll on
the field. It eventually got Mike.
Something in the engine broke
while running in 3rd place. Mike
was done for the evening and was
credited with a 13th place finish.
Only 5 cars finished the race.
Because
of the rough conditions at MRP,
Mike has decided to take this
weekend off to closely examine
his car before next weekend's
VRS doubleheader in Kentucky.
Disappointment
at Tazewell
Tazewell
Speedway has become one of Mike's
favorite tracks. With a Lucas Oil
race scheduled at Tazewell, Mike
decided it was time to run with
the series as they visited Tazewell.
Mike
won his B-main race to make the
starting grid for the 75-lap feature.
Mike looked to be making some ground
early in the race, but smoke began
to pour from underneath the hood
of his #22 Trak-Star. Mike parked
his car for the night. It was feared
to be an engine problem. But a closer
inspection revealed a failed fitting
on the power streering pump caused
fluid to be dumped on the engine.
Mike's
plans for June 12 are undecided
at this time.
Third
place finish at North Georgia
Memorial
Day weekend wrapped up with
the second race of a doubleheader
with the Volunteer Racing
Series. The race was at
North Georgia Speedway.
Twenty-nine
cars took time at the 1/3-mile
track. Mike was one of the
top 5 qualifiers and found
himself on the front row
of one of three heat races.
Mike won his heat to earn
the 3rd starting spot for
the 40-lap race.
In
the main event, Ronnie Johnson
and Randy Weaver duked it
out for the lead. Tony Knowles
got by Mike for a position.
Later on Billy Ogle Jr.
also got by. But Mike maintained
5th place and had a solid
points night. Mike now sits
in 4th in the series standings
just 40 points out of first
place.
Mike
will be headed back to Tazewell
Speedway for the Lucas Oil
Late Model Series race on
Friday night.
4th
place at Boyd's VRS race
Mike
headed back to Boyd's Speedway
for the second Volunteer Racing
Series event of the season.
In the earlier VRS race, also
at Boyd's, Mike suffered a
penalty when tires were deemed
to be too soft for competition
per series rules. Mike was
ready to redeem himself.
Just
like the previous VRS outing,
Mike set fast time at Boyd's.
Mike's time of 13.536 seconds
topped the 30 cars vying for
a spot in the 40-lap race.
In
heat race action, outside
polesitter Randy Weaver got
the preferred line going into
turn 1 and took the lead.
Weaver won the heat and Mike
finished second to take the
4th starting spot.
Mike
and Tommy Kerr would battle
it out for the 4th spot. Kerr
finally claimed the spot near
the halfway point in the race.
Mike and all other cars still
remaining on the track picked
up a spot as race leader Weaver
dropped out of the race on
lap 29. Mike held onto the
4th spot.
