Mike Weeks Racing News

April 5, 2011 - Mixed results during weekend of racing

Due to a schedule change because of weather, Mike Weeks raced two races this past weekend with mixed results.

The first race was the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series race at Smoky Mountain Speedway. A whopping 41 cars turned out for the $2,500 to win race. The night started out good for Mike as he qualified 6th for the feature event. Just past the halfway point of the race, Mike was involved in an accident that dropped him out of the race. Mike was credited with a 17th place night.

The second race was the rescheduled Charles Trammell Memorial NASRA race at Tazewell Speedway. The race was moved to Sunday to allow for an extra day of track prep. As was expected, the track was dry and slick from the warm sunshine. The race was filled with plenty of cautions. But Mike stayed ahead of most of the incidents and brough home a 6th place finish.

Mike will be racing at North Georgia Speedway this Saturday as the Volunteer Racing Series gets underway.

March 14, 2011 - Debut for 2011 does not go well

The 2011 got off to a difficult start at Cleveland Speedway. The $10,000 to win Shamrock 60 attracted some heavy hitters along with top regional drivers. Track conditions made the night a difficult one.

Racers were greeted with a hard, dry racing surface. Strong winds throughout the afternoon made it a challenge to prepare the racetrack. The conditions made passing a challenge all night.

Mike qualified 23rd out of 39 cars on hand. Mike failed to transfer to the feature through heat races, but did make the race bu finishing 3rd in his consolation race.

The start of the feature saw some passing back in the back. Mike worked his way inside the top 20. But the track conditions did not allow for any more passing. Mike decided to park his car after a caution flag slowed the pace.

"We weren't going to pass anybody else, so I decided to park it and save our euipment for the next race," Mike said following the race.

That next race will be the Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway on March 19.
